All Aboard the Sci Fi Express!

August 9, 2016

It's going to be an awesome week. Things are going to get significantly more awesome in several weeks, once things get ramped-up as far as the new 9-5 is concerned.

In the meanwhile, I'm having a lot of fun with this new web site as well as my new blog. It's like a big boy's diary! (I probably should have started doing this much sooner, but hey, better late than never, as they say.)

Lately, I've been reevaluating my position on consuming fiction in the written form. Now, I know you're probably thinking, "A.C., you're a sci fi writer, WTF are you talking about?" But I promise you it's not as silly of a concept as it sounds.

Personally, my preferred medium is film. Some people's favorite forms of entertainment might be comics, or graphic novels, or books. Some people may enjoy the spaced-out pacing of a television series. For me, the combination of sight and sound, the way it makes me feel, that's my shit.

I like all those other things, and t-shirts, and Funko Pop! dolls. I like almost all things nerdy, but the way I feel when watching a good movie, that's my favorite escape from reality. Without getting the ATF involved, anyway. I think I'm just becoming a more well-rounded science fiction connoisseur. Yes, I think that's it.

Maybe only a writer would find such a thing interesting, but you know what's interesting? The way the English language is changing right before my very eyes, and I'm not talking about how it's changed since men wore curly, white wigs. I'm talking about how it's changed in my life time or just the past several years. This stuff fascinates me.

First it was no more doubles spaces after periods. Then, the Oxford comma became boss. Now, everything is getting hyphenated, and we're putting a lot more commas in front of the last word in a sentence. Maybe I'm just being silly, but witnessing the evolution of my favorite language in real-time (see what I mean?) is pretty freakin' cool...said no non-writer ever. (I'm not doing it on purpose...I swear.)

My schedule has gotten quite a bit tighter. Having to juggle a 40-hour (-_-) work week with sci fi dreams and a personal life is no simple task. But I wouldn't have signed up to play this game if I thought it was going to be easy.
