My Top 3 Favorite Video Games

Master Chief from Halo in his suit of armor and helmet.

All this talk of the Xbox One S and Playstation 4 Neo, along with all of the new graphics cards that got released this summer, compelled me to write a post about my passion for gaming. Oddly enough, I've never owned a Sony console, but Have owned just about everything else. (aside from an Atari, which was slightly before my time. I even had a 3DO at one point!) I won't even begin to try to explain what sort of logic or sophisticated ninja calculus I used to come to these 3 conclusions, I'm just goin' with my gut here.

3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Yes, it is true that my favorite type of game is the first person shooter. It is also true that my first experience with CoD wasn't with the original title. (The same theory applies to number 2.) But Man did I love this game. The combination of the weapons themselves, along with the crate-dropping aspect of the game, I was sold. I was also obsessed with obtaining that nuke. Especially on certain maps where I had more of a game plan than others, I would set claymores incessantly until I reached my goal of a 25-kill-streak. Perhaps my second favorite console-based gaming experience ever. I will never forget about how much fun I had playing CODMW2.

2. Battlefield 4

Not very different from Battlefield 3, except for one thing...I got into BF3 much sooner after its release than I did BF4. I didn't start playing BF4 until a year after it had come out. (I played both of them on PC.) For this reason, regarding BF3, I played a crappy, buggy version of the game for many months until it finally became something that wasn't frustrating. BF4 had already been out for a year, so I wasn't a guinea pig for that one. If BF4 is my 2nd favorite game of all time, even with all the gripes I had with BF3, that's saying something. The perfect combo of arcade shooter and realism. I'd tell you how many hours I logged playing this game, but that would be embarrassing.

1. Halo: Combat Evolved

Probably part of the reason why I'm writing science fiction today, the original Halo is in a class of its own. We used to play this bad boy split screen 4 ways, into the wee hours of the morning. The OST's title track? Legendary. This game made Gregorian chant music cool, lol. The entire series has been wonderful, and I hope they continue to make additional, wonderful Halo games, because this is one franchise that I feel still has plenty of fuel in its tank. The characters, their names, their designs, the weapons, the themes, the land, different races with their own weapon sets, the maps, the music, the gameplay, good Lordy, don't get me started, for I am now self-inflicted Jonesin for some serious multiplayer Halo. I loved this game from the get go, and I hope I will continue to do so.
